The folding knife is probably the most common knife we see on the market today. They are portable and easy to carry, with numerous different types to meet all of your specific needs. If you scour through some of your old belongings, chances are, you might come up with one of these knives already in your possession. However, they might not have the best possible technology.
In this article, we have tested some of the best folding knives on the market today. These knives might not be targeted towards a specific person or even a specific market. We have selected them at random to help you make the best decision. We have also included a buyer’s guide that ensures you know exactly which features are the most important when making a selection.
The Kershaw Blur Pocket Knife is one of my all time favorites and this knife is rather small and easy to conceal. The knife is made from solid Japanese steel, making it extremely durable and enabling you to cut through virtually anything. I also like the affordable price and many of the safety features that have been included.
Editor Pick: Kershaw Blur Pocket Knife
Best Folding Knife On The Market Today:
Before we dive into many of the top features, we have decided to enlighten you with the top features. These knives have been heavily scrutinized during our tests, but we also needed some expert advice to help us make the best decision. Here is our list of the best folding knives that you could potentially find on the market today:
The first knife we choose to add to the list is the uniquely designed Kershaw. It is made from solid stainless steel from Japan and it features an anodized aluminum handle. The combination of these materials makes it really lightweight and also adds some durability. We also found the knife to not rust when it is left in the rain for a couple of days.
Aside from the unique safety features and speed-assist opening, the knife also includes a Trac-Tec insert for more grip. Using this knife, I found it virtually impossible for the knife to slip out of my hands when used correctly. If you don’t like the standard olive color, it is worth noting that you could find the knife in different colors to suit all of your specific needs.
The grip is so tough; you might find the knife a little tough on your hands. It does have a clip that is used to keep it in place on your side, but the “sandpaper” feeling is something that many people find a little painful. However, you will get used to this feeling and as the grip wears off a little, the knife will be more comfortable in your hand. It is also assisted by an ergonomic design.
As for the price, pocketknives are generally more affordable than your fixed blade alternatives. These knives are smaller as well. The Kershaw Blur is probably one of the more expensive versions on the market today, but you will get great value for your money. I would highly recommend the knife and I like carrying on a piece of string around my neck for when I need it.
Kershaw is one of the best brands when it comes to folding knives. They have a wide selection for everyone in need of a new knife. The Kershaw Clash Black Serrated Knife is much similar to the previous knife. The knife features a durable and lightweight 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade of 3.1-inches. The additional heat treatment also means it should last a little longer.
As you might have guessed, the knife features a small serrated edge. This serrated edge can be used for a wide variety of different purposes. I personally believe the knife is not only ideal for slicing, but it can be used for survival purposes as well. Glass-filled nylon is used for the handle and they have small bumps included for added grip.
One of my biggest complaints seems to be the screws that occasionally come loose. However, you can easily have them fixed with some glue or by tightening them yourself. Once again, Kershaw has included many of the same safety features they are renowned for and the Kershaw brand also gives a small warranty for the knife.
The price is the best part of the knife. I think it is really affordable for all of these special features. If you are looking for something that can be used every day, this knife is one of the best on the market today. Unfortunately, it is not one of best-looking knives and you might need to change the color if you see it fit to have a different color. Nevertheless, this knife is extremely functional.
Best Multi-tool: Leatherman Wingman Multitool
Occasionally, you might like to use a decent multi-tool for your daily needs. These tools are also foldable, making them great to be carried in your pocket. The Leatherman Wingman Multitool is one of my favorites and it has been constructed from durable stainless steel. It is also really lightweight at just over 6.88-ounces.
While there are many different Leatherman tools on the market today, this one is one of my favorites. It includes 14 different tools that will be handy whenever you need them. I also like the fact that the knife can be opened with only one hand and you won’t need to drop the things in your hands. Additionally, a nylon sheath is included and can easily be strapped to your belt for easy carry.
While the tools are of standard Leatherman quality, I did find the quality of the coating to be lacking somewhat. However, it will still last you a couple of years when you look after the knife. Should you have any problems with tools breaking, Leatherman also includes a service as part of the warranty that ensures the knife will be fixed.
Since this is not your standard knife, it should not be any surprise that it is a little more expensive than some of the other smaller pocketknives. The knife also comes with a state of the art 25-year limited warranty. Finally, I believe the customer service is one of the best on the market today and you can easily get in touch with them for assistance.
Benchmade is one of those brands you rarely buy. To be honest, the only people I have seen with these knives are the ones who are collectors or avid users of a pocketknife. The Benchmade 940 Knife is made with a durable stainless steel blade, but the aircraft grade aluminum handle is the best part. This keeps the knife lightweight, whilst adding incredible durability.
Unlike some of the other knives with an ergonomic design, this knife is ambidextrous. Since it can be used in both your left and right hand, the knife will enable you to defend yourself if needed from a precarious situation. I find the locking axis to be really strong and durable. It also means it won’t be flicked open when you drop it or carry in your pocket.
At only 2.44-ounces, the knife is really light as we have mentioned. The additional 3.4-inches used for the length is more than enough to enable you to cut through whatever you need to and even gut a fish if you are an avid angler. Lastly, I like the manual opening, but it might not be the fastest, as you would potentially expect when you invest in a brand like Kershaw.
Unfortunately, the price is one of the toughest parts to overcome. If you are not an avid collector or outdoorsmen, the knife might be a little too expensive. However, I believe these features should last you for the rest of your life. Benchmade has also backed up my claim by adding a limited lifetime warranty that should give you more confidence when using it.
Do you prefer an older look to your faucet, but with modern performance and versatility? The Delta Windemere 21996LF-OB is an ideal buy. Elegant and well-built, this faucet ensures a vintage look, while delivering a high water flow, matching sprayer, and a curved gooseneck that provides plenty of extra clearance.
The 21996LF-OB’s black finish is highlighted with bronze detailing for a more authentic vintage style, with all of the components matching perfectly — including the side sprayer. The spout of the faucet positions it in the middle of the sink tub, helping to eliminate backsplash.
This can reach a flow rate of 1.80 gallons per minute @ 60 psi, giving the sprayer added pressure for easier cleaning, and allowing the spout to fill glasses and containers at a much quicker pace than the average.
Commercial kitchens faucets have certain demands that ordinary sinks and faucets can’t meet. The Fapully Commercial Pull-Down Faucet may be designed for restaurants and commercials kitchens, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it at home.
The Fapully Commercial Pull-Down Faucet improves upon a traditional commercial faucet design. The single handle can control both water pressure and temperature, and the sprayer includes a lock that can keep the sprayer on without the needs to hold the pressure handle down yourself.
The faucet is completely rust-resistant, utilizes a heavy-duty spring that’s built to last for years, and both the stream head and spout can both rotate a full 360 degrees to improve your reach.
And while this faucet is designed to hold up to the rigors of a commercial kitchen, its easy installation and clean, modern, and industrial style makes it a perfect match for contemporary kitchens looking to make a statement.
The Delta Peerless P110LF is a great option for buyers not looking to spend all that much on a new faucet, but still want the typical Delta quality and build. This simple faucet is anything but flashy, but still has some subtle styling, is able to match most decors, and installs quickly.
The Peerless P110LF is a single-handle faucet, options for a tall curved handle that’s easy to reach and control. The spout protrudes about 8 inches from the base, placing it in an ideal spot for minimizing backsplash and reaching the center of the sink tub.
A 1.8 gallons per minute flow rate is impressive given the faucet’s size. While the chrome finish is the cheaper of the two choices, a stainless steel option gives buyers added refinement and appeal for a small increase in price.
Key Features To Consider When Choosing A Folding Knife:
Compared to some of the other knives I have seen and reviewed, the folding knife is one of the easiest knives to choose from. There are so many of them on the market and most are really great quality. However, these features can be used if you are looking for the best. However, you should also keep the main reason for your purposes in mind. Here are the most important features:
As with most of the knives we see, the materials are fundamentally important. Stainless steel is generally used for the blade and there are many versions. However, you could find more expensive materials. When it comes to the handle, we recommend glass-filled nylon. As mentioned, this will keep the weight down to a minimum and you will be able to use the knife easily.
If I am going to be carrying the knife or the entire duration of the day, I love to have a lightweight version. These knives can be really heavy and this will be frustrating to carry. Anything under the 5-ounce weight will definitely be easy to carry for long periods. However, if you are looking for a multi-tool like the Leatherman, you might need to pay a little extra for all of those specific and technical tools.
This will be where the purpose of your use will come into play. If you are using the knife for small everyday cutting purposes, you might not need a massive blade. However, many people like to use the folding knife for fishing and cleaning the fish. While it might work for gutting your fish, you might not find it extremely reliable when it comes to gutting and skinning your hunting trophies.
When it comes to something that can easily be reproduced, you need to keep the brand in mind as well. Having a reputable brand supplying your knife will give you multiple benefits. The brands we have selected might be a little more expensive, but they will definitely give you what you are paying for in the end.
I have seen many top brands being reproduced and sold for half the price. These products might look exactly like the original brand, but the quality of the materials will not be the same. You might be saving a couple of buck at first when you buy, but eventually, you will need to replace the knife quite often and it will be expensive.
Not all of the knives do come with a warranty, but I personally find the warranty to be quite important. A decent warranty could make a massive difference and should the knife not live up to expectations, you can have it fixed. Much like the Kershaw knife with a few screws that occasionally come loose, you should also check the other knives to have these small manufacturer errors fixed for free.
We have selected these knives for all their spectacular features and they are by no means the only pocket knives you should look at. However, I have tested some of them with the help of a bladesmith and they have done the job they were made for. I find the Kershaw Blur Pocket Knife to be one of the best knives on the market today. It is somewhat pricey for a beginner, but you will thank yourself later.
We would like to thank you for reading this article and encourage you to share some of your thoughts. If you have ever used any of these knives, we would love to read your comments. Also, be sure to let us know which other knives you have used and you think we should review.
